Zoli has a great post on Open Source vs. big enterprise software vendors.
The post begins with a response to Shai Agassi's remarks about Open Source and continues by digging into what the real problem is and its potential solutions.
As Open Source moves toward enterprise applications, the value is impressive.
Open Source web-based applications mean no delivery or implementation costs and very low recurring fees.

I can only agree with the fact that OpenSource solutions are gaining traction in business. I am adjunct faculty at Pepperdine, and Redlands University and manage consulting projects for SMEs in Southern California. I see a growing demand beyond website services for professional grade web-based collaboration solutions. Most companies are now working in a global environment, with partners spread geographically, and employees in remote locations. The concept of central office Information Systems is becoming less attractive, and increasingly unaffordable. The needs I hear about now is to bring diverse teams together for the duration of a project, share knowledge and deliverables on the fly, and have everyone actively contributing in a self service environment. Your products are absolutely going in the right direction. I am also observing a similar trend in the education market, where the traditional curriculum management software (Blackboard and others) find it difficult to address the needs of remote learning teams. I want to know more about your solutions
